What We Loved

• Recently renovated rooms and resort (2024).
• Every room has a bay or ocean view.
• Central location in the Hotel Zone, safe and walkable.

What Could Be Better

• It’s a small resort – I wouldn’t stay more than 3 nights here.
• Coffee was just okay
• Not a ton to actually do on property. Fine for us since we just wanted to lay by the pool and read, but if we’d stayed longer or brought the kids, we’d have needed to leave the resort for entertainment

Overall Resort Experience

This place exceeded our expectations. The rooms are clean, modern, and clearly recently updated. Even the “resort view” category rooms have water views, which was a nice surprise. The location is excellent too — right in the middle of the Hotel Zone, less than 30 minutes from the airport.

We only had 48 hours, so we spent almost all of it by the pool, which was lively without being overcrowded. If you have more time, the location makes it easy to walk to local restaurants, bars, and shops, or grab a cheap Uber into town.

Marriott Cancun with Kids

This particular trip was adults-only, but I could absolutely see bringing the kids here next time. The resort is genuinely family-friendly — there are two main pools, one adults-only and one for families, both with swim-up bars.

Every restaurant and bar we went to felt welcoming to kids, and we saw families everywhere on property. I peeked into the Kids Club (ages 4–12) and it looked like a fun, safe setup for parents who want a few hours to actually relax.

Food and Dining at Marriott Cancun

I went in expecting average resort food. I was wrong.

Casa Madre (breakfast): Watermelon juice, Bloody Marys, chilaquiles, scrambled eggs, churros, and genuinely excellent spicy salsas if you like heat.

Casa Madre (dinner): Quesa birria tacos were amazing. Chicken tacos were fine, nothing special. Mole enchiladas were fantastic.

Poolside lunch: Shrimp ceviche and guacamole, both fresh and flavorful. Margaritas and piña coladas were both good — tip a few dollars at the pool bar and the pours get noticeably stronger.

Mikado (teppanyaki): Hibachi-style dinner with a genuinely skilled chef, great food, great service.

Coffee shop: Egg sandwiches and cappuccinos were just okay. The donuts, somehow, were excellent.

Poolside taco cart: Chorizo and pork tacos. Honestly might have been the best food of the entire trip.

We didn’t make it to Hana Polynesian Grill, Toscanni Italian, Delphina, Izakaya, or Champions Sports Bar — but with that much variety on property, there’s clearly something for everyone.

Spa Experience

We did a couples massage and it was great. The spa is open-air, right on the beach, so you hear the waves the entire time. I worried it might be too hot, but cool washcloths kept things comfortable throughout. Left feeling completely relaxed.

How We Booked It (and What We Paid)

Here’s exactly how this trip came together:

Friday night in Orlando: Hyatt Place MCO, about $100 — booked through my agency since it was cheaper than other available rates. Free breakfast and shuttle included.

Flight to Cancun: JetBlue, MCO to CUN, 6,500 miles + $51.68 each. Early flight meant immigration was fast.

Airport transfer: Private round-trip transfer for $58 — way cheaper than resort transfers or taxis.

Resort stay: Two nights in a King Resort View room, booked with 2 Free Night Certificates + 13,000 Marriott points. We got upgraded to an Ocean View King at check-in.

Flight home: Southwest, CUN to MCO. 39,500 points + $78.56 for my husband, free for me thanks to my Companion Pass.

Can I drink the water and use the ice?
Yes — I drank the water, used the ice, brushed my teeth with it, no issues.

Do I need to book airport transfers in advance?
Yes. Ubers don’t pick up at the airport, so without a pre-booked transfer you’re looking at $80+ for a taxi. I booked a private round-trip transfer for under $60 through my agency. Once you’re actually in the city, Ubers are cheap and easy.

Is Marriott Cancun truly all-inclusive?
Yes — all food, drinks (including alcohol), and on-property activities are included. Spa and excursions are extra.

Is there an adults-only area?
Yes, there’s an adults-only pool plus several quiet spots if you want to escape the kid energy.

Do I need to tip?
Tips are technically included, but bringing small bills for the pool, bars, and restaurants goes a long way — service and pour sizes both noticeably improve.

How far is the resort from the airport?
Less than 30 minutes by car.

Can you use Uber in Cancun?
Yes, just not at the airport itself. Once you’re in the Hotel Zone, Ubers are reliable and cheap.

Is the beach swimmable?
Yes — soft sand, generally clear and calm water, though it varies a bit with weather.

Is Wi-Fi included?
Yes, and it works well across the entire property, including by the pool.

Do I need to speak Spanish?
Not at all — everyone we interacted with spoke perfect English.

Final Thoughts

For a quick adults-only getaway, Marriott Cancun delivered way more than we expected. Clean rooms, genuinely good food, a great location, and a beachfront spa made for an easy, relaxing few days. And knowing how family-friendly it actually is, I’d happily bring the kids here next time too.
